Quote: | Japan's latest video game craze isn't attracting the typical youthful gamers playing shooting or sports-based games. Instead it's appealing to an adult audience with a daily routine of logic puzzles games and IQ-type quizzes.
The puzzle-filled "Brain Training for Adults" has become a smash hit for the Nintendo Company. The game has sold 3.34 million copies since its launch in May 2005 and has increased sales of the handheld gaming system Nintendo DS.
One hospital in Japan has even purchased Nintendo DS units for use in its "memory loss clinic."
"The game won't cure dementia. But it's a good form of stimulation," Dr. Takeshi Kihara, a doctor at the clinic, told the Associated Press.
"I don't want to end up some crazy old man," said "Brain Training" enthusiast Isamu Shishido, a 67-year-old retiree. "I want to play a little everyday before going to bed."
Nintendo has plans to release an English version of the game, titled "Brain Age," in the U.S. this spring. |
