Someone put together an app to cordinate google maps and cencus data...you can zoom in to a very nice level...here's a pic of my neighborhood...

Though I don't have the link I recently saw a google map adaptation that showed local gas prices so you could find the best stop.

There's quite a few... Ive seen the gas one, also seen the craigs list linked one (mainly for house rents and stuff) recently was an article somewhere on uses for google maps... pretty neat stuff.
