I wonder what the church has to say about this.... the church is genearlly against cloning and other genetic research right?

In general, yes, because as the article says, the experiment resulted in a miscarriage. Usually to get these kinds of things to work, many unborn babies (and even born babies) have to suffer and die until the doctors figure out how to work the procedure safely.

Even in regular invetro fertilization, the doctor generally inserts about 20 embryos, knowing that only one or two will survive. If you believe that a human embryo is a living human that deserves life, this is another issue. But even if you don't take that point of view, genetic experiments that result in the suffering and death of a newborn or soon-to-be-born baby just so we can have three parents seems way out of line to me.
