I've been doing similar types of optimization since i got my first laptop, but this is a great article detailing the process. Decrease power usage by 20-60% ...
This works especially well with less optimized chips. Essentially non ULV (ultra low voltage).
Essentially my pentium M 1.6ghz dothan runs a stock of 1.4v, i was able to run 1.6ghz stable at .9XX volts. I rarely mess with the low end, however the article states an even higher power saving on the low end.
AMD athlon -m's also can do a similar thing. I brought an athlon64 3000+ Mobile down to ~1.0 volts stable... huge reduction of power usage.

I shut off my own optimizations... and tried it their way
I was able to get the following results:
1.6ghz (16X) - 1.004V
1.1ghz (11X) - 0.812V
600mhz (6X) - 0.700V (min available)
I did slightly better than the reviewer... still doing intensive burnins (only have about 15 min on each currently).
Also going to see if it'll want to run over 600mhz on the min 0.7V
Woot!!! good method....
If I knew how these programs manipulated the computer I'd add the softfsb program functionality with this one.... could get some mad overclocking with all multiplier, fsb, AND voltage mod on one program _________________ "My Heart Is In the Work" - Andrew Carnegie |
