they're comparisons in technical superiority when one of the things being compared exists in a universe in which a magical force pervades everything allowing for sword battles which should have been obsolete( and really still should be...why the hell are the jedi using a sword instead of say a range weapon as standard issue?)... _________________ People's whole lives do pass before their eyes before they die. Why are there still sword fights in this sort of environment? For the same reason that there are planet destroying lasers, fast ships that go 'zoom, pchoow! pchoww!' in the vacuum of space and sentient dogs the size of Andre the Giant.
Because it's cool, damn it. |

my point is you can't compare two fundamentally technologically unsound things which don't even occupy the same universe/environment in terms of which one has better technology
this comparison has to be done on one's enjoyment of either show/movie which is and always will be subjective. The battle is an eternal thing. _________________ People's whole lives do pass before their eyes before they die. The process is called living.

The comparison on which one is better isn't the issue. The grand debate (not necessarily the relevant one, but in this topic it is the one at hand) is who would win in a fight. Be it Tetsuo v. Goku or Superman v. the increible Hulk, Verus battles are a major component of nerd discourses. Throughout this medium the fundamental differences are moderately irrelevant...
Saying things like how they are fundamentaly unsound and uncomparable in the greatest of the great nerd debates is like telling Johnathan Swift that perhaps, due to nutritional information, eating babies instead of potatos isn't the best of plans. It misses the point.
Besides, X-wings make cooler noises and have cooler names than Shuttlecraft or Runabouts. |

and the point is what exactly?.....
besides that while the grand debate as you called it may include various vs battles, it is not just a vs battle of every technology and every person in either movie/show. So saying that the grand debate is over because of technological vs battles is presumptous. But that is of course if i use my definition of the grand debate....
saying something as broad as "grand debate" with two scifi genres which are plagued with debates and then later saying that a person who assumed the grand debate to be something other then what's in your head missed the point isn't the best way to clarity in a conversation. If you mean something specific say so
and yes i did assume something, but as a general rule people make assumptions every day, and as far as assumptions go this wasn't all that unreasonable
besides even all of this...how can one have a vs battle in technology when one of the universes has the distinct upper hand of magick like forces....that's like comparing what a regular person can do with what a person with even simple magical powers can do and coming to the conclusion that the magical person did better exclusively because of something they accomplished rather then something they were born with
and as a final note, consider writing analogies that the relatively illiterate of us could hope to understand _________________ People's whole lives do pass before their eyes before they die. The process is called living.
