Does anyone know if they often decrease the speed of the memory modules due to the effectiveness of the board? The hynix chip that it's on is supposed to run 400mhz (PC3200). I found out after decoding the markings. Also the sticker on it also says PC3200. The strange thing is.... they were sold as PC2700. It seems like if these were PC3200 rejects, that hynix wouldn't put their sticker on it. The other thing I considered was that these chips uses the larger format modules. Most SODIMMs now use the smaller package so they can fit more onto one chip.... I dunno... still haven't convinced my friend to let me test on his laptop that supports PC3200.

I think it's common in electronics to set the speed or capabilities of an ASIC after it's produced based on the qaulity of the batch.

but they wouldn't stick the PC3200 sticker on it.... the sticker generally goes after testing... there's no PC2700 indication except for my sales sheet.

What's the difference between 2700 and 3200? I would assume that 3200 would be able to back-throttle to 2700 if it needed to...
