Just taking a short break from writing this awful "essay" (those i've talked to about it know what i mean)......and discovered that Satoshi Kon (Director of Perfect Blue) is comming out with a third movie, his second this year. The first was Millenium Actress (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/MillenniumActress-1124128/) and this new one is called Tokyo Godfathers. I just discovered the trailer about half an hour ago (http://www.spe.co.jp/movie/worldcinema/tgf/movie.html)
Edited Dec 15 to add summary after max's posting:
"Tokyo Godfathers is the story of three homeless people (an old bum, a transvestite, and a teenage runaway) who find a baby in a trash heap and then try to return the little girl to her mother. The film follows the trio as they traverse Tokyo, following clues and leads left behind by the baby's parents. Serendipity is their constant companion, ensuring that they find what they need and that the plot keeps moving despite the apparent hopelessness of the quest. " (end of edit)
Whats more, Tokyo Godfathers appears to be in line for an early limited release this month to make it elligable for the Oscars. http://www.oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2003/03.11.19.a.html
Thus, with Millenium Actress Satoshi Kon has two eligable films, and from what i've heard, both are of the quality to potentialy to win.
Summaries of each

Tokyo Godfathers: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/reviews/display.php?id=535
Yes...i know this was a little incoherant...but...it was mostly done as a break from this dreadful summarizing monotony of a project...so...there...

Hmm... I'm actually curious to see Millenium Actress sometime, just because I've heard people say really good thing about it. (I've heard good things about Perfect Blue as well, but it deosn't look like the type of movie I'd have the stomach for.) I haven't heard of Tokyo Godfathers though. Trailers aren't playing right for some reason... but the reviews sound good.
Last time I went to Suncoast, they had like 20 copies on the shelf. _________________ Check it out! I finally remembered my login for this account. I can do crazy things like put text in my signature and change my avatar so it doesn't say NaNoWriMo 2005. |
