There was some talk last week or so about the book Tome of Battle which, in the D&D community, is considered an upgrade for melee combat. The three classes effectively upgrade what are generally considered three of the weaker classes among the dedicated players (Paladin, Monk, Fighter) when viewed in contrast with the more magic-enhanced classes (Wizard, Druid, Cleric).
While we aren't exactly a group of power-gamers, these options might prove interesting for those who want to spice combat up a little.
I don't know if Tyler plans to use it, but I'd be open to players exploring the book in mine. It is, however, a little hard to get into at first; each of the three basic classes (Crusader, Swordsage, and Warblade) is given, in addition to a few interesting class features, a set of maneuvers and stances vaguely analogous to spells. As you level up you learn new more powerful maneuvers to use in combat instead of the basic "I hit them with my sword" attacks. Overall, it looks a bit like how magic works in that you learn and prepare these special moves for the day.
In any case, if you're still reading, I've come across a set of printable PDFs that detail each of the maneuvers on a piece of paper the size of a magic card making it easily usable for play. I've printed/cut-up/sorted a set of these and hope to have them with me when we first meet in July which might be of great use to any interested in figuring out this new approach to combat.
P.S. Max, as part of this development, might I try to make use of Swordsage (the Monk equivalent) for the remaining 8 levels of our accelerated game?
P.P.S. Miranda, you might be interested in Crusader (the Paladin equivalent). Unless you're really psyched for your spell-development, it might give you some interesting options. _________________ The old Jastermereel account seems to have been killed in an unfortunate email changing accident.
